Sherman Kemp captured in Dominican Republic after years as Florida fugitive

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have captured Sherman Kemp, also known as “Goose,” a 47-year-old American who was considered one of Florida’s most wanted fugitives. The arrest took place in the Distrito Nacional following a joint operation between the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Kemp had been a fugitive from U.S. justice since September 11, 2026, after escaping from federal custody during a prison transfer under a temporary permit regime. He was serving an accumulated sentence of nearly 30 years for federal crimes, including conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin, as well as illegal possession of firearms in the districts of Maryland and Eastern Pennsylvania.

Kemp gained notoriety in 2004 for his appearance in the “Stop Snitching” video in Baltimore, which was used to intimidate witnesses. Following his arrest, he was transferred to Las Américas International Airport and deported to Miami, where he remains in U.S. Marshals custody.
