Power outage scheduled in southern Dominican Republic due to substation work

The Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica Dominicana (ETED) announced that on Friday, 19 June, it will carry out normalization work at the 138 kV Cruce de Cabral II substation. The tasks include high‑voltage (HIPOT) testing of newly installed equipment in all four line bays of the substation as part of its network expansion.

The work will require a temporary interruption of the 138 kV line Azua–Cruce de Cabral II–Juancho Los Cocos. Service will be halted from 08:00 to 11:00 local time, affecting the municipalities of Barahona Pueblo, Vicente Noble, Salinas and Las Damas (Barahona Province), Neyba (Bahoruco), and Jimaní and Duvergé (Independencia). A second outage will occur from 12:00 to 15:00 affecting the province of Pedernales. The interruption will also impact local businesses and facilities such as Barahona Carbón, Canoa Solar, Ingenio Barahona, the Barahona free‑zone, Barahona Airport and the South‑West Aqueduct. ETED said the work is part of its maintenance, modernization and expansion program to improve the reliability and safety of the national transmission grid and to enable integration of new generation sources.
