Dominican Republic presents 2027 national budget proposal

The Dominican Republic government has submitted its 2027 General State Budget proposal to the National Congress. The plan projects economic growth of 4.75 percent and estimates total revenues of approximately $25.4 billion, with expenditures reaching $30.9 billion.

Social spending is a primary focus, accounting for roughly 43 percent of the total budget. Allocations include $6.1 billion for education, $3.3 billion for public health, and $5.3 billion for social protection services such as pensions, housing, and assistance. The proposal also prioritizes public investment in infrastructure, including the Santiago de los Caballeros monorail and the expansion of Santo Domingo Metro Line 2.

In relation to the upcoming budget cycle, Deputy Emil Durán has called upon President Luis Abinader and the Ministry of Education to include salary increases for administrative school staff. Durán noted that while teachers received raises in 2022 and 2025, essential personnel such as janitors, porters, secretaries, and security guards should also be considered in the 2027 fiscal planning.
