Dominican PRM to Choose New Senate President Next Week

The executive board of the Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) will meet next week to select the next president of the Dominican Senate. Current Senate leader Ricardo de los Santos is nearing the end of his third year, and party leaders say the decision will hinge on a collective vote within the PRM executive.

Sixteen PRM senators have asked President Luis Abinader and party chief José Ignacio Paliza to apply the principle of alternation in the Senate presidency, urging a change in leadership. Paliza declined to name a preferred candidate but highlighted senator Alexis Victoria Yeb of María Trinidad Sánchez for her provincial support. Senator Guillermo Lama noted the need to rotate the chair after de los Santos’ term.

Paliza also pledged that the party directive will present a consensus proposal for the Senate leadership. Party members such as Luis Henríquez have criticized the PRM, claiming it has undermined the political system, while other figures like Guido Gómez Mazara and Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz advocate for a unified, forward‑looking PRM governance.
