Dominican Republic protests over cost of living and music equipment seizures
In Moca, social and popular organizations held a peaceful vigil demanding a reduction in electricity tariffs, lower food basket and fuel prices, and the completion of the unfinished Moca bypass. The protest also opposed the so‑called “ley mordaza” and called on authorities to address these community needs.
In Las Terrenas, the Association of Musicologists organized a peaceful march to protest police and interior ministry seizure of speakers, sound systems, and other musical equipment. They demanded the creation of tolerance zones for music activities, arguing that the restrictions harm dozens of families and local businesses dependent on the music sector.
