Dominican Republic sees rain drop and temperatures rise as Sahara dust lingers

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported that heavy rains are receding across the country after the tropical wave moved away. A plume of Saharan dust is turning the sky hazy and driving daytime temperatures to 32‑34 °C, especially in the capital region and central provinces. The weather is expected to become mostly sunny with only isolated showers possible in the Cordillera Central and some southeastern areas.

Health officials warned that the hot, dusty conditions pose risks for children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with respiratory or skin sensitivities. Recommendations include staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, avoiding prolonged sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and seeking cool, ventilated places.

Overall, the forecast for the weekend is favorable for outdoor activities, although a new dust layer may keep the sky slightly muted until Sunday, after which another tropical wave could bring additional rain later in the day.
