Dominican Republic rehabilitation center death sparks investigation

The death of 25-year-old José Franco Guerrero at the Fundación Evangélica Ejército de Dios Rescatando al Caído in La Romana, Dominican Republic, has raised concerns regarding the operation of addiction rehabilitation centers.

According to his family, Guerrero’s health deteriorated significantly during his six-month stay. They allege that despite reports of his declining condition and lack of food, the center provided misleading information. The family also claims they sent money for a blood transfusion that was never administered, with the funds reportedly being applied to his stay instead. Guerrero died on August 21, with the cause of death cited as respiratory arrest.
