Dominican Republic reports 62 feminicides in early 2026
In the first months of 2026, the Dominican Republic has recorded 62 feminicides, according to Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso. This figure represents an increase compared to the 59 cases documented in 2025.
Reynoso highlighted that 89% of the murdered women had never previously reported instances of violence. Additionally, data shows that approximately 25% of feminicides are followed by the suicide of the perpetrator. These statistics have prompted calls to strengthen prevention policies and address the underlying culture of machismo.
In response to the ongoing issue, the Ministry of Women has initiated training programs for community leaders. These workshops aim to create prevention networks and provide support for victims by raising awareness within local sectors.
