Dominican Republic reports anti-corruption progress to the UN

Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Director General of Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG), presented the Dominican Republic's progress in combating corruption before the United Nations in Vienna. Speaking during the 17th session of the Group of Review of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, she highlighted the country's efforts in prevention, prosecution, and asset recovery.

Ortiz Bosch emphasized that the Dominican Republic views the application of the Convention as a strategic component of economic development, institutional strengthening, and democratic consolidation. She argued that fighting corruption should be viewed as a national investment rather than an expense due to its positive impact on economic growth and institutional quality.

Key legal advancements noted include the adoption of the Penal Code, the Law on Public Procurement and Contracting, and the Law of Asset Forfeiture. Additionally, she reported that more than nine judicial processes related to corruption cases are currently active in the courts.
