Dominican Republic Reports Drop in Dengue and Malaria Cases While Issuing Dust‑Related Health Advisory

The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Public Health said that during the first 20 epidemiological weeks of 2026 the country kept key communicable diseases under control. Dengue cases fell to a cumulative 111, with only 10 new cases reported in week 20, down from 126 the same period last year. Malaria saw a sharper decline, with a total of 83 cases and a reduction of more than 80 % compared with 511 cases a year earlier. No cholera cases have been recorded in 2026, and other vaccine‑preventable diseases remain absent.

At the same time, the ministry warned citizens about the health risks of Saharan dust and unusually high temperatures. Officials advised people, especially the elderly, children, pregnant women and those with respiratory conditions, to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, wear light clothing, keep indoor spaces dust‑free and follow medical treatments as needed.
