Dominican Republic reports medical advancements in HIV care and public health
Medical advancements and public health initiatives are being highlighted in the Dominican Republic. A study by the Centro de Orientación e Investigación Integral (COIN) revealed that a multidisciplinary care model for HIV patients achieved a 74% reduction in mortality compared to conventional treatments. The study, which analyzed 994 individuals, showed mortality rates dropping from 2.7% in traditional care groups to 0.7% in the differentiated care group, while clinical follow-up abandonment fell from 38% to 30%.
In the field of neurology, the Sociedad Dominicana de Neurointervención y Neurología Vascular (SDNINV) presented progress on a pilot thrombolysis plan for the public health system. This initiative aims to improve access to timely treatments for stroke patients. The program also includes the implementation of the Guía Código Ictus 2026 to standardize emergency responses to vascular events.
Additionally, the XVIII Central American and Caribbean Congress of Endocrinology, organized by ASOCEDIM and hosted by the Sociedad Dominicana de Endocrinología y Nutrición (SODENN), addressed the rising challenges of diabetes and obesity. Experts discussed how technological advancements and artificial intelligence are transforming endocrinology and emphasized the need for updated sanitary policies to manage metabolic diseases.
