Dominican Republic develops National Maritime Strategy to boost logistics
The Association of Shipowners of the Dominican Republic (ANRD) has launched the ‘Maritime Vision 2026’ forum to establish a National Maritime Strategy. The initiative aims to prepare the country for long-term economic growth by addressing needs in infrastructure, connectivity, logistics, and sustainability.
During the forum, Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza noted that over 65% of Dominican exports are moved via sea. He highlighted that more than US$531 million has been invested in port infrastructure over the last five years through public and private channels. Key areas for development include the ports of Haina and Caucedo, as well as potential logistics hubs in Manzanillo, Barahona, and Puerto Plata.
In a separate economic trend, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Dominican real estate sector reached US$915.2 million in 2025, a 14.6% annual increase. Additionally, data from the first half of 2026 shows that the country’s FDI is characterized by a high proportion of new capital contributions, distinguishing it from much of Latin America, where the reinvestment of profits is more common.
