Dominican Republic seeks extradition of murder suspect from Jamaica

The Dominican Republic's Public Ministry has initiated legal procedures to extradite Jhovanny de Jesús Metz Cruz, known as ‘Macho’, from Jamaica to face charges related to the death of driver Deivy Carlos Abreu Quezada.

Metz Cruz is identified as the alleged primary aggressor in an incident that occurred in April at the Santiago Palace of Justice parking lot. According to authorities, the victim was pursued by a group of motorcyclists before being attacked. While Metz Cruz is the main suspect, seven other men are currently in preventive detention for their alleged involvement in the attack.

Wilson Camacho, Director of Prosecution, stated that the Department of Legal Cooperation is coordinating the process. The timeline for the transfer depends on Jamaican legal dynamics and whether the accused accepts the extradition. If Metz Cruz accepts, the process may be faster; if he opposes it, the legal proceedings in Jamaica will take longer. Preliminary police reports suggest Metz Cruz traveled to Jamaica irregularly using a false identity via maritime routes.
