Dominican Republic faces high heat and Sahara dust in Punta Cana
Residents and visitors in Punta Cana, Bávaro, Verón and much of La Altagracia can expect very warm conditions on Thursday, with maximum temperatures ranging from 31 °C to 33 °C and lows between 23 °C and 25 °C. A light concentration of Saharan dust will keep the sky grayish and the air dry, increasing the heat‑index and posing respiratory irritation for people with allergies or asthma.
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology warns that isolated showers and brief thunderstorms may develop in the morning across several provinces, with moderate afternoon downpours and occasional gusts linked to a tropical wave and an upper‑level trough. The forecast calls for a gradual reduction in rainfall on Friday as high pressure and the dust layer dominate the region.
