Dominican Republic government submits National Territorial Planning Bill
The Dominican Republic's Executive Branch has formally submitted the National Territorial Planning (PNOT) bill to the Senate. Presented by President's Minister José Ignacio Paliza to Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, the legislative proposal aims to regulate land use, manage urban and rural growth, and protect natural resources such as water sources, wetlands, and coastal zones.
The plan seeks to establish a sustainable framework for economic activities and human settlements, incorporating criteria for environmental sustainability, risk management, and climate change adaptation. It complements Law 368-22 to provide a unified vision for organizing the country's territory, which faces high population density.
Senate President Ricardo de los Santos announced that the project will be made available for public consultation on the Senate's website to encourage citizen input. The initiative follows five years of regional consultation and aims to reduce land-use conflicts while ensuring organized development across all municipalities.
