Dominican Republic Senate pushes for drug law reform

The Senate of the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with the Chamber of Deputies, the Attorney General's Office, and the Organization of American States (OAS), held a workshop titled ‘Challenges and Obstacles in Drug Legislation in the Dominican Republic’ in Santo Domingo.

The initiative aims to unify criteria for creating an updated regulatory framework to reform national laws regarding drugs and synthetic substances. Senate President Ricardo de los Santos emphasized the urgent need for new regulations to combat organized crime, noting that criminal groups are advancing rapidly by utilizing technological bases.

This legislative push follows agreements reached during a congress in Washington aimed at promoting collaborative work to address the societal threats posed by drug consumption and trafficking.
