Dominican Republic signs SEMI Foundation pact to boost semiconductor industry

The Dominican Republic has signed a memorandum of collaboration with the SEMI Foundation during SEMICON West 2026 to advance the nation's semiconductor industry. The agreement, signed by Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs Yayo Sanz Lovatón and SEMI Vice President Shari Liss, focuses on talent development and creating favorable conditions to attract investments in semiconductor assembly, packaging, and testing (ATP).

This initiative follows the 2025 launch of the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry (ENFIS) and decree 324-24. The government aims to leverage the country's existing experience in medical and electronic device manufacturing to integrate into the global semiconductor supply chain. The strategy includes strengthening cooperation between government, academia, and industry to address the global shortage of skilled workers in the sector.

Minister Sanz Lovatón noted that the semiconductor industry reached a one trillion dollar sales milestone in August 2026, four years ahead of its original 2030 target. The Dominican Republic is positioning itself as a competitive destination for advanced manufacturing to capture a share of the market previously concentrated in Asia.
