Dominican Republic sports betting operators urge deeper review of draft gambling law

Representatives of legally established sports betting operators in the Dominican Republic presented their position on the General Gambling Law currently being examined by the Senate. The statement followed a meeting with Dr. Quico Tabar, coordinator of the Council for Monitoring the Gambling Regularization Plan, during which they were invited to sign a supporting document for the bill passed by the Chamber of Deputies.

The operators asked that the proposal undergo a more thorough and participatory analysis. They warned that the draft could expand electronic and virtual gambling in unrestricted spaces, making supervision difficult and increasing risks to children and adolescents. They also called for clearer regulatory provisions to prevent ambiguous licensing, equitable conditions for all industry players, and transparent tax treatment for electronic gaming. While supporting an updated legal framework, they stressed the need for transparency, legal certainty, and effective regulation to protect public finances and social welfare.
