Venezuela National Assembly swears in judicial selection committee
The Venezuelan National Assembly has officially sworn in 12 representatives from civil society to join the Judicial Nominations Committee. This 23-member body, which also includes 11 deputies, is tasked with evaluating candidates for the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ).
The selection process involved reviewing 127 applicants, of whom 85 passed the initial evaluation. The final group of 12 includes professionals from various fields such as law, medicine, and academia, with a notable majority of women. This move is part of ongoing negotiations between the government and opposition sectors aimed at renewing the country's highest court and strengthening judicial independence.
Following the committee's formal installation, the next phase will involve opening the official period for receiving nominations for both principal and substitute magistrates of the TSJ.
