Dominican Republic: The history of the Cristóbal carbine
During the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, the Dominican Republic developed a domestic military industry centered in San Cristóbal. In 1947, the creation of Corporación Hispaniola led to the establishment of the Armería de San Cristóbal, a facility dedicated to manufacturing firearms, ammunition, and military components to supply the Dominican Armed Forces.
A key product of this era was the Cristóbal carbine. Designed with the participation of Hungarian engineer Pál Király, the weapon became one of the most representative pieces of the Dominican military industry and was exported to other countries. The Cristóbal Model 2 featured a wooden stock, a 30-round magazine, and utilized .30 Carbine caliber ammunition.
