Dominican Republic to launch instant payment platform in 2027

The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic will launch a new instant payment platform in 2027. According to Governor Héctor Valdez Albizu, the system will operate 24/7, 365 days a year, with fund accreditation occurring within seconds.

The initiative aims to revolutionize electronic transfers, promote payment digitalization, and increase financial inclusion for small and medium-sized enterprises, traditional clients, and the general public. The platform will involve regulated financial intermediation entities.

In the first half of 2026, the existing Real-Time Gross Settlement (LBTR) system processed 23.6 million transactions, mobilizing over 2.3 trillion pesos. Valdez Albizu also noted the resilience of the Dominican financial sector, reporting that as of September, financial sector assets reached 4.6 trillion pesos, representing a 10.7% year-on-year growth.
