Dominican Republic moves to pay contractor debts and revises 2026 budget

A commission created under Law 16‑26 approved a public protocol that sets procedures, criteria and technical requirements for reviewing and processing contractor claims, with the aim of starting payments on state debts to contractors. The commission, chaired by Finance Minister Magín Díaz and including Contralor Geraldo Espinosa Pérez, Budget Director José Rijo Presbot and Public Procurement Director Carlos Pimentel, said the protocol will be publicly accessible and will give priority to cases pending when the law entered force.

Separately, the government said it will soon submit a draft amendment to the 2026 General State Budget to Congress. Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza explained the revision will incorporate provisions of the new Anticrisis Law – a pro‑growth, tax‑simplification and crisis‑mitigation package – to align public finances with the current economic situation. Both measures are presented as steps to improve fiscal transparency, strengthen the state’s financial stability and support economic growth.
