Dominican Republic conducts national earthquake evacuation drill

The Dominican Republic conducted a National Earthquake Evacuation Drill on Tuesday at 10:00 AM to test emergency response protocols and strengthen disaster preparedness. The exercise involved various public and private institutions, educational centers, and communities across the country, including the province of Dajabón and the San José de Ocoa district.

President Luis Abinader participated in the drill at the National Palace, emphasizing the necessity of constant preparation to protect lives. The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) utilized several alert mechanisms, including sirens and the Cell Broadcast system, to send mass notifications to mobile phones. However, some users reported technical issues, with reports of delays between 30 and 35 minutes for text alerts or some failing to receive notifications entirely.

In conjunction with the drill, President Abinader also led a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at the National Palace, calling for wisdom and strength to face national challenges. Additionally, the San Juan Provincial Civil Government held a dedicated day of action and prayer for the well-being of the province and the nation.
