Dominican Republic tourism bodies launch beach cleanup and vendor plaza management initiatives

On June 22, 2026, United Petroleum took part in the National Beach Cleanup at Playa Gringo in Haina, joining the Ministry of Tourism, the AIEHAINA association and other companies. Participants collected about 3,600 lb (1,630 kg) of plastic and waste. CEO Juan Tomás Díaz Infante said the event showed how “the union of two generations working for the same cause… gives us hope” and highlighted the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

The same day, the Dominican Ministry of Tourism formally established a Management Committee for the Plaza de Vendedores de Playa Sosúa under Decree No. 187‑26. Vice‑Minister Patricia Mejía, Senator Ginette Bournigal and representatives of local churches, the municipal government, the Magua Foundation, the Sosúa Development Association and the vendors’ association were named to oversee the plaza’s maintenance, sustainability and operation, aiming to improve conditions for vendors and visitors alike.
