Dominican Republic restores Alcazar de Colón museum, adds LED lighting
Minister of Tourism David Collado delivered the restored Alcazar de Colón museum in Santo Domingo’s Ciudad Colonial after an investment exceeding RD 186 million. The renovation repaired structural issues, restored interior spaces, upgraded security, accessibility and climate‑control systems, and introduced a new museography.
Simultaneously, the government launched a public‑lighting project for the historic district, allocating about RD 86 million to install more than 2,000 LED luminaires on streets, plazas and parks. The upgrade aims to improve safety, energy efficiency and the visitor experience for the roughly 10 % of tourists who tour the colonial zone, bolstering the area's economic activity.
