Dominican Republic reports record US$10.56 billion in exports
The Dominican Republic is experiencing significant economic activity across several sectors. ProDominicana reported record exports of US$10,563.2 million for the period of January-August 2026, an 11.4% year-on-year increase. This growth was largely driven by raw gold exports, which rose 46%, alongside significant increases in tobacco, orthopedic devices, and electrical components. The United States remains the primary export destination.
In the domestic business landscape, nearly 18,000 new companies were created in the first half of 2026. The government has introduced the ‘Empresas 24h’ initiative to streamline business registration through all 32 chambers of commerce. Additionally, Banreservas announced RD$7,000 million in available funding to support productive sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and commerce.
On the policy and social front, various challenges are being addressed. The Minister of Energy and Mines announced extended service hours for electricity distributors to handle consumer complaints regarding billing. In the political sphere, the Fuerza del Pueblo party has criticized the government's police reform, citing a lack of significant net growth in personnel. Meanwhile, business leaders are calling for educational reforms to improve national productivity and economic stability.
