Dominican Republic Urges More Investment in Education and Health

Dominican Republic officials emphasized that education and health are essential pillars for the country's development. Recent data show that public spending on health remains below 3% of GDP, far short of the 6% target recommended by the Economic Commission for Latin America, while education funding has been misallocated despite a 4% budget allocation in 2014.

President Luis Abinader, joined by Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Rafael Santos Badía, called for a comprehensive reform of the education and health systems. They cited the National Development Plan, backed by law 1‑12 and law 498‑06, as the framework for increasing investment and improving service quality across the nation.
