Dominican Republic utilities upgrade electric distribution, schedule short outages
The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (Edeeste) announced a two‑day reconfiguration of its network at the Nueva Caleta substation on 9‑10 July 2026. Work will involve circuits CALE04, CALE01, CALE02, BOCA02 and ERI11, with the new CALE06 circuit placed into service. Customers in La Caleta and surrounding neighbourhoods were asked to disconnect voltage regulators to protect equipment during the upgrades.
Edesur Dominicana will commission a new medium‑voltage circuit (UASD108) at the UASD substation on Saturday, aiming to reduce load on circuit UASD104 and improve service stability. The operation will affect zones served by circuits UASD101, UASD103, UASD104, UASD107 and MATA107, with a planned outage from 08:00 to 12:00. Areas such as La Esperilla, El Vergel, Naco and parts of the university district will experience brief interruptions. Both projects are part of broader efforts to modernise the country’s power distribution infrastructure and enhance reliability for residential and commercial customers.
