Dominican Republic woman sentenced for Ministry of Education fraud

A woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for fraud in the Dominican Republic after attempting to sell influence within the Ministry of Education (Minerd). According to the Public Ministry, Ana Minerva Terrero Sánchez claimed she could alter results in opposition contests to secure teaching appointments and positions for relatives.

The judge in Barahona ordered Terrero Sánchez to serve her sentence at the Baní Correction and Rehabilitation Center. She is also required to return RD$880,000 obtained through the scam and pay RD$500,000 in compensation to one of the victims. The investigation revealed that the suspect used her position in a public entity to gain credibility, convincing applicants that she had the necessary contacts to manipulate educational rankings.
