Dominican Republic women lead working-age population growth
Data from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic indicates that women constitute the largest segment of the country's working-age population. As of the second quarter of 2026, women accounted for 52.6% of the working-age population with 4,380,605 individuals, while men represented 47.4%.
Despite women making up the larger portion of the working-age demographic, the labor market remains dominated by men in terms of actual employment. Of the 5,271,005 employed persons, 57% were men. Additionally, the employment rate for men in the working-age group stands at 75.9%.
However, women have been the primary drivers of recent employment growth. Between the second quarter of 2025 and the same period in 2026, 86.6% of the 147,457 new jobs created were filled by women. The total number of employed women rose from 2,141,379 to 2,269,121 during this period, representing an employment rate of 51.7% for women of working age.
