Dominican Republic youth attempt to reclaim Guinness reading record
The Dominican Ministry of Youth has launched 'Juventud en Voz Alta,' an initiative featuring five 18-year-old readers attempting to reclaim the Guinness World Record for team reading aloud. The current record is held by Nigeria.
The marathon is scheduled to begin on August 31 at 6:00 PM and is expected to last for 20 days. The participants—Maikol Yafrani Arias Sánchez, Mayury Ariaany Vélez Sánchez, Abril Sharmin del Rosario Jiménez, Franchesca Alí Minier Suárez, and Ismael Alejandro Durán de la Rosa—will rotate to maintain continuous reading.
The reading list includes 51 works totaling roughly 14,000 pages, with 65 percent (33 books) written by Dominican authors. The challenge will be broadcast live 24 hours a day from a booth located in front of the Ministry of Youth headquarters.
