Dominican Republic Youth Card enters final implementation stage

Carlos Valdez, the Minister of Youth, announced that the Tarjeta Joven program is in its final stage. The social initiative targets individuals between 18 and 35 years old living in conditions of poverty or vulnerability.

More than 290,000 young people have registered for the program, with over 8,000 currently meeting the established requirements. The benefits of the card are expected to include discounts or facilities in areas such as cinema, culture, and transportation. Negotiations have been finalized with Mastercard through Banco de Reservas to manage the card and its services.

While the project originated within the Ministry of Youth, its execution is managed by the Supérate program. Valdez noted that coordinating administrative processes between these two entities caused some delays. The program aims to reach approximately 30,000 beneficiaries through a gradual regional rollout, with more than 80% of those identified being university students.
