Dominican Republic youth leadership highlighted in forums and commemorations

In Santo Domingo, the non-partisan platform Política Nueva Generación RD held its first “Conectar para Liderar” forum at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). The event, marking the organization's third anniversary, gathered over 150 participants, including students, political leaders, and professionals, to discuss youth involvement in public life and the development of new political leadership.

Panelists included figures such as José Horacio Rodríguez of the Partido Opción Democrática, Sheila Brito of the PLD, and Lenin Campos González of the Fuerza del Pueblo. The forum aimed to provide spaces for dialogue and preparation for younger generations to assume social and political responsibilities.

Separately, political leader Tony Guevara, president of Jóvenes Contra la Violencia, issued a call to Dominican youth to honor the legacy of Amin Abel Hasbún. Guevara commemorated the anniversary of Hasbún's assassination on September 24, 1970, describing him as a symbol of struggle for justice and social equality who sacrificed his life for the country.
