Dominican Republic's DGPCF Marks 55 Years of Border Community Development

The Dirección General de Promoción de las Comunidades Fronterizas (DGPCF), a unit of the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Defense, celebrated its 55th anniversary on 4 August 2024. Created by Decree No. 1328 on 4 August 1971, the agency’s mandate is to improve social, productive and human conditions in the nation’s border zones.

Under the leadership of Colonel Nelson de Jesús Viloria Otáñez, ERD (DEM), DGPCF has expanded and modernized agricultural, aquaculture, livestock, apiculture and agro‑forestry projects in communities such as Macasías, Guaroa, Los Cacaos, Bánica and El Llano. Recent initiatives include a partnership with the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), installation of water‑purification plants, and the launch of computer‑training courses for children and adolescents. The agency also organizes agro‑fair markets to provide fresh, affordable food to families along the frontier, reinforcing state presence, food security, employment and territorial equity.
