Dominican Republic PRM to elect new leadership by acclamation on Aug 9

The Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) has called a National Assembly of Delegates for Sunday, 9 August 2026, to select its top officials for the 2026‑2028 term. The meeting, organized by the Comisión Nacional de Elecciones Internas (CNEI), will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the hotel’s tent at the Sheraton in Santo Domingo. Delegates will vote by acclamation to appoint the party president, vice‑presidents, secretary‑general and sub‑secretaries.

The PRM plans to present a single slate of candidates, eliminating internal competition. Potential nominees include President Luis Abinader for the party presidency and Carolina Mejía for the secretary‑general post, though the final list has not been confirmed. The process follows the party’s statutes and Dominican electoral law, marking the conclusion of its XXIV Ordinary National Convention.

The acclamation vote is intended to streamline the leadership transition and reinforce internal party democracy ahead of upcoming national elections.
