Dominican Republic addresses seismic risks and provides aid to Colombia
In the Dominican Republic, the Association of Dominican Teachers (ADP) has warned that public schools are unprepared for major earthquakes, noting that 57% of centers show structural cracks. This warning follows devastating seismic activity in neighboring Venezuela and Colombia.
In response to the earthquake in Colombia, the Dominican government has established a collection center at the Navy Base ‘27 de Febrero’ to receive medical supplies, food, and hygiene products for international humanitarian assistance.
Separately, President Luis Abinader presided over the 15th graduation of the Oportunidad 14-24 program. The ceremony recognized 2,576 young people from the Metropolitan and Eastern regions who completed technical training. The program has now benefited over 69,000 youths and aims to reach 40,000 graduates by the end of 2026. Additionally, the President inaugurated several infrastructure projects, including a military transportation battalion and school improvements, while announcing plans to equip more technical high schools with necessary training tools.
