Dominican Republic's PRM sets August 9 date for leadership election
The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) held its 23rd extraordinary national convention in Santo Domingo, approving a series of statutory amendments. The changes include expanding the Executive Board to 65 members, eliminating the party president’s executive coordinator role, and defining the selection of vice‑presidents based on proportional votes for the presidential slate.
The party also decided that officials elected at the upcoming 24th ordinary national convention will serve a two‑year term covering 2026‑2028. That convention – which will choose the party’s president, vice‑presidents, secretary‑general and sub‑secretaries‑general – is scheduled for Sunday, 9 August. Party secretary‑general Carolina Mejía highlighted the PRM’s “political maturity,” praised President Luis Abinader’s administration, and expressed confidence that the PRM will regain the presidency in 2028.
