Dominican residents denounce declining consular services in Antigua and Barbuda

Dominican residents in Antigua and Barbuda have reported a significant decline in consular, migratory, and protection services provided by the Dominican Consulate, which holds jurisdiction over Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Complainants stated that the support system previously available has weakened, making it difficult for hundreds of citizens to complete basic paperwork or communicate effectively with authorities. They noted that under previous management, a network of facilitators helped expedite processes and reduce costs, a mechanism that they claim has now disappeared.

Residents expressed concerns regarding a lack of engagement from Consul Julio César Mateo and reported difficulties contacting Ambassador Yolanda Victoria. The community has called upon the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) to strengthen institutional presence and improve communication channels to ensure the welfare of the diaspora.
