Dominican Senate holds historic session in La Romana

The Dominican Republic Senate held a historic session in the province of La Romana to commemorate the area's 82nd anniversary. Led by Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, the plenary session marked the first time the upper house has legislated directly within the province.

During the session, senators unanimously approved a bill in its second discussion to declare La Romana an ecotourism province. This initiative, proposed by Senator Edward Alexis Espíritu Santo, aims to promote economic efficiency, social equity, and environmental conservation through alternative tourism models.

Other significant legislative actions included the approval of a bill to create public sector internships for technical and university students, and a measure to regulate the professional practice of private detectives. Additionally, the Senate approved a project to declare bullfighting in El Seibo as an intangible cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic.
