Dominican Senator Omar Fernández Urges FP‑PLD Alliance for 2028 Election

Senator Omar Fernández, representing the Distrito Nacional, said a coalition between the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) and the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) is essential for the 2028 presidential race. He stressed that his own political ambitions depend on the direction of PLD leader Leonel Fernández and warned not to underestimate new political actors, citing influencer Santiago Matías, who is polling strongly. Fernández noted that relations between the FP and PLD are not worse than they were four years ago, but internal resistance remains, making the alliance necessary. He recalled his personal electoral success—over 80,000 votes in the last PLD primary—and said he receives support from former presidents Danilo Medina and Gonzalo Castillo. The senator called on both parties to focus on shared goals rather than differences, urging unity to mobilize voters ahead of the next election cycle.
