Dominican Senators address corruption funds and legislative oversight
Dominican Senator Alexis Espiritusanto has called for the nationwide distribution of funds recovered from corruption cases. Responding to concerns regarding the allocation of RD$1,200 million to La Vega, Espiritusanto argued that resources should not be limited to 15 specific demarcations but should instead be distributed across the entire national territory.
In a separate development, Senator Omar Fernández emphasized the need for the National Congress to strengthen its oversight capabilities. Speaking at an event organized by Universidad APEC, Fernández highlighted the challenges faced by the opposition in acting as a democratic counterweight, noting that the current legislative makeup limits the ability to critically examine government actions, particularly ahead of the upcoming General State Budget presentation.
