Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino hit by plastic bottle during 400m race

During the women's 400‑metre final in Santo Domingo, a plastic bottle was thrown from the stands onto the track. The object passed close to Marileidy Paulino and fellow competitor Roxana Gómez but did not cause a fall. Commentators on the Abriendo Sports podcast called the incident a "international shame" and demanded identification of the perpetrator.

Dominican Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz announced that the individual responsible has been detained and will face sanctions, emphasizing the need to protect athletes and uphold respect for sporting venues. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the bottle was launched intentionally or if additional bottles were thrown, and the investigation remains ongoing.
