Dominican students set Guinness World Record for continuous reading
A team of five Dominican students has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous team reading aloud. Participating in the ‘Juventud en Voz Alta’ challenge, the group completed 500 hours of reading over a period of 20 days and 20 hours, starting on August 31 and concluding on September 21.
The team, which includes Mayury Ariaany Vélez Sánchez, Abril Sharmin del Rosario Jiménez, Ismael Alejandro Durán de la Rosa, Maikol Yafrani Arias Sánchez, and Franchesca Alí Minier Suárez, surpassed the previous record of 431 hours held by a Nigerian team.
Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps met with the students in Santo Domingo to discuss their experience. The students described the challenge as an ‘unforgettable’ experience that fostered a sense of brotherhood and community. The initiative was coordinated by the Ministry of Education, which involved approximately 30 educational centers and 1,500 students in related activities to promote literacy among Dominican youth.
