Dominican Superior Electoral Tribunal rejects freeze on political party funding

The Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) has rejected an incidental precautionary measure that sought to suspend Resolution 01-2026 issued by the Central Electoral Board (JCE). This resolution establishes the distribution amounts for state economic contributions to political parties, groupings, and movements for the year 2026.

The request for the injunction was filed by Proyecto Visión Nación (PVN) and José Cristopher Ramírez. While the Tribunal admitted the request in form, it ruled that the legal requirements for a precautionary measure were not met. Specifically, the court found that the three necessary conditions—verisimilitude of the invoked right, imminent and irreparable damage, and identity between the object of the precautionary measure and the main action—were not verified.

Additionally, the Tribunal rejected two dismissal motions presented by the JCE. The first motion, which argued that Proyecto Visión Nación lacked the standing to participate, was dismissed because the applicants are part of the main lawsuit. The second motion, which claimed the resolution had already produced its effects and was fully executed, was also rejected.
