Dominican teachers support mandatory Haitian Creole in schools

The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) has expressed support for a legislative proposal to make the teaching of English, French, and Haitian Creole mandatory in primary schools.

Menegildo de la Rosa, communications secretary for the ADP, noted that while many Haitians speak Spanish to communicate with Dominicans, the reverse is not true, creating communication barriers. He emphasized that Haitian and Dominican populations coexist daily in schools and communities, such as in San Juan de la Maguana, and that learning Creole would facilitate better understanding and social integration.

The proposal was introduced by Julio César Beltré, a deputy from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
