David Collado avoids political dispute with Jesús Vásquez

Dominican Tourism Minister David Collado has declined to respond to criticisms made by Jesús ‘Chú’ Vásquez regarding his political standing within the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). Vásquez, a former general secretary of the party, recently claimed on a radio program that Collado is not an active leader or organic member of the PRM.

Collado, speaking at an event in Punta Cana, stated that he is focused on his ministerial duties and noted that engaging in political debate would be ‘a lack of coherence’ since he has not publicly announced any presidential aspirations. He expressed support for democratic debates among candidates but emphasized his current institutional role.

The remarks from Vásquez have sparked internal friction within the PRM. Santiago Riverón, the Mayor of Dajabón, described the comments as ‘exaggerated’ and motivated by political desperation. Additionally, PRM Deputy Ramón Bueno defended Collado’s history, noting his political involvement dates back to 1998, and warned that such internal confrontations weaken the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
