Luis Martín Gómez, Dominican journalist and writer, dies
Dominican journalist, writer, and communicator Luis Martín Gómez has passed away at the age of 64. He died in the intensive care unit of the Hospiten medical center in Santo Domingo following a period of serious health complications, reportedly involving a brain tumor.
Gómez had a distinguished career in both institutional communication and literature. He served as the Director of Communications for the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic from 2005 until 2023. He was also a prominent television news presenter and a dedicated researcher of the legacy of Juan Pablo Duarte, producing the 2013 documentary ‘Juan Pablo, un acercamiento al Padre de la Patria’.
As a writer, Gómez received numerous accolades, including two National Short Story Prizes (1999 and 2009) and the National Children's Literature Prize in 2003. His published works include titles such as ‘Dialecto’, ‘Memoria de la sangre’, and the novel ‘Rumor de río’. His literary contributions have been included in anthologies across several countries, including Spain, Italy, and Argentina.
