Dominican Youth Foundation mobilizes 1,300 volunteers for national beach clean‑up
The Fundación Juventud Progresista completed its sixth National Coastline Clean‑up in the Dominican Republic as part of World Ocean Day celebrations. Over a series of 27 sessions from June 6 to June 27, volunteers worked on 21 beaches and coastal areas, including Las Terrenas, Playa Los Almendros, Parque Submarino La Caleta, Boca Chica, Playa Güibia and Playa Sabana de la Mar.
A total of 1,341 volunteers, backed by the Ministry of Tourism, Plastiflex and numerous local firms and community groups, removed approximately 56,966.5 lb (about 57 thousand pounds) of solid waste. The effort was led by the foundation’s president, Mayker Méndez, who highlighted the commitment of youth and partners to protect marine ecosystems and promote environmental education.
