Dominik Hašek addresses Russian threats and criticizes NHL players

Former hockey goaltender Dominik Hašek has addressed death threats issued by high-ranking Russian officials, including Dmitry Medvedev, following Hašek’s criticism of Russian aggression in Ukraine. Hašek noted that while the Czech police and ministry eventually cooperated with him, he believes the response should be more immediate to protect citizens from such threats.

Hašek’s commentary has gained international attention, notably through an op-ed published by the Washington Post. In the piece, he criticized the NHL and its fans for providing a platform to Russian players like Alexander Ovechkin, arguing that such visibility serves as an advertisement for the Russian regime and its actions in Ukraine. He urged fans to recognize that human lives hold more value than sporting achievements.
