Dominik Szoboszlai named Liverpool vice-captain

Dominik Szoboszlai has been appointed as a vice-captain at Liverpool FC under new head coach Andoni Iraola. The Hungarian midfielder joins Alisson Becker and Joe Gomez in the club's leadership group following a summer of squad restructuring and the departures of several established figures.

Szoboszlai’s appointment follows a dramatic Premier League season opener against Newcastle United, where he scored a 99th-minute penalty to secure a 2-2 draw. Club captain Virgil van Dijk praised the midfielder's composure and leadership experience as the captain of the Hungarian national team, suggesting that Szoboszlai is the long-term successor to the Anfield armband.

While Alisson Becker is part of the leadership group, coach Iraola noted that the goalkeeper is an impractical choice for on-field captaincy duties due to officiating regulations. With Szoboszlai having recently signed a new contract, the club appears to be positioning him as a central figure for the future.
